Leah MacDonald
"Art imitates art."
Leah MacDonald's considerable experience in the realms of photography, encaustic painting and mixed media have produced a significant body of artwork describing sensuous narratives of women.
In a parallel career as a commercial portrait photographer, Leah adapted her process to commissioned work and has founded Waxworks. The commercially successful interpretation of her technique will be featured this spring on Martha Stewart. (Info about this venture can be found at waxworksphoto.com.)
Leah’s process involves starting with a silver gelatin print on fiber paper, adorning the image with beeswax, oil paint and drawing. Layer by layer, images emerge that are as penetrating in their symbolism as they are just plain luscious to look at. Gallery Saint Martin is pleased to present the ‘fine art’ side of Leah MacDonald’s work.
