Robert Kaupelis
"Live, love, draw."

Robert Kaupelis is a legendary New York artist known for his exuberant paintings that have been called the “equivalent of Nature’s raiment.”

Gallery Saint Martin is pleased to present never before exhibited works on paper from early in Robert Kaupelis’ career.   Much like his paintings, the featured works on paper bear witness to a process that balances skillful draftsmanship with bold color. While small in scale, these mixed media pieces nonetheless manage to model the “records of solid invention by someone steeped in the major painting of our time.” (Wm. Zimmer, NY Times.)

In addition to a painting career that has produced more than 50 one-man exhibitions and seen the inclusion of his work major museums, Robert Kaupelis has also been cited as one of the outstanding teachers in the nation. His 30 year career as a Professor of Art and Art Education at New York University includes his authoring two books on drawing which have been hailed as offering a ‘revolutionary effect upon both artistic expression and aesthetic understanding.’

‘Learning to Draw’ and ‘Experimental Drawing’ offer a unique blend of instruction and insightful analysis through both master and student drawings.  Signed copies, dedicated as ‘Live, Love, Draw,’ are available.
