Barbara Schaff
“A New Dimension”
Barbara Schaff received a Certificate Degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, a BA from Syracuse University, and studied ink painting at the China National Academy of Fine Art in Hangzhou, China.
A self-taught artist in clay, Schaff attended PAFA after enjoying a prolific career as a ceramist. The evolution from painting with glaze on porcelain tile to painting on canvas was a natural progression.
Schaff’s work has been shown in many solo exhibitions throughout the east coast and can be found in numerous international, private and corporate collections.
Frederick Osborne, PAFA Dean describes that “Schaff speaks of wrestling her canvases to the ground, a fortunate metaphor. The finished work contains the power of the struggle, but with few of the scars. We find ourselves looking at the familiar, and slowly realizing that we, in fact, have never seen what we are looking at. Schaff shows us a new dimension.” |
